| | | Greeting All: Please read this urgent message to the end. I read a very touching article from yahoo.news with photos about the Johnstown flood a few weeks ago and almost wept. About three weeks ago and especially yesterday and this morning, God touched me so much to write about it after praying with a godly woman of faith. It is truly prophetic because I forgot the date for this tragedy but later this morning I did a search and found that it was on May 31,1889! The same date! Wow! Yesterday May 31 was also the National Dam Safety Awareness Day; “The day commemorates when the South Fork Dam failed on May 31, 1889, sending a deadly rush of water and debris into the city of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The Lord said to me that this past major catastrophe is an example for us to release and take warning. America and many countries of the world are like Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18,19). They need repentance. Matthew 10:15 “Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!”
Jude 1:7 “…as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”
2 Peter 2: 4-7 “4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; 5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; 6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly; 7 and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked…”
All Watchmen/Pastors/Ministers: Read Joel 2:1 and Ezekiel 33:3,6 that you must “Blow the trumpet” to warn people. Joel 3:13 “Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, go down; for the winepress is full; the vats overflow— For their wickedness is great.” Revelation 14:19 “So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.” God’s judgment upon the repentant sinners would scatter them to the winds as the chaff from the threshing floor. “Therefore they shall be like the morning cloud and like the early dew that passes away; like chaff blown off from a threshing floor and like smoke from a chimney.” (Hosea 13:3). Jeremiah pronounces a similar fate on the Babylonians “For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor. When it is time to thresh her; yet a little while and the time of her harvest will come.” (Jeremiah 51:33). “
A Roar Like Thunder: “On June 1,1889, Americans woke to the news that Johnstown, Pennsylvania had been devastated by the worst flood in the Nation's history. Over 2,200 were dead, with many more homeless. When the full story of the flood came to light, many believed that if this was a "natural" disaster, then surely man was an accomplice.” (http://www.johnstownpa.com/History/hist19.html) “2209 people died. 99 entire families died, including 396 children. 124 women and 198 men were left widowed. More than 750 victims were never identified and rest in the Plot of the Unknown in Grandview Cemetery. Bodies were found as far away as Cincinnati, and as late as 1911. 1,600 homes were destroyed. $17 million (year 1889 value) in property damage was done. “On May 31, 1889 rain poured down relentlessly. Men at the South Fork Dam watched in horror as the water in the lake rose as quickly as six inches per hour. Water began to pour over the top of the dam's earthen wall, eroding the wall's outside. As the wall appeared to be doomed, men at the dam tried to warn the town by telegraph. Some residents of Johnstown, afraid of a dam break, climbed into their attics, where they would be trapped.
At 3:10 p.m. the dam broke. A monstrous wall of water, at times as deep as 89 feet, rushed down the valley toward Johnstown. …Around 11:30 a.m., the small mound of earth thrown up by the plow suddenly gave way and the water started over the dam, quickly widening out to 50 ft. Parke, the "resident engineer" at the dam, rushed off on horseback to inform the telegraph operator at South Fork to warn the people in the valley below that the dam might collapse.
