Prophecy

Prophecy is a directed revelation from God Himself to someone i.e. a prophet for the edification of the church as well as the world (for both believers and unbelievers).  Also, prophecy can be a group of exact words from God or His message.  It is defined as telling something that God has spontaneously brought to the mind of a believer of Christ Jesus.  A communication of the mind of God imparts to a believer by the Holy Spirit.  2 Peter 1:21 "for prophecy never came by the will of man but the holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit."   "It is the reception and subsequent transmission of spontaneous, divinely, originating revelation, and facts in relation to God's purposes, and to report that information in such a way that the church might be built up, encouraged, and consoled," quoted from a Christian source.   One who prophesies to us may not be a prophet or prophetess.  Similarly, one who heals us may not be a healer. To become a divine position like a prophet or a healer or a teacher, one must operate one's gift of prophecy or healing or teaching frequently, not occasionally.   If any worker of the Lord (disciple) is called a minister of any particular gift, he or she has to manifest strongly and powerfully in that gift.

Pastor Ng shared the “Prophetic Voice to the Church” from an article of the church she kept.   It said, “As some may not be familiar with prophecy in the church, we want to share this short explanation of biblical prophecy before we share an actual prophecy from God.  First, what is godly prophecy?  It can be summed up as words that are spoken on behalf of God.  A prophet or prophetess is one who is a spokesman for God.  It is a divine utterance that comes from God the Holy Spirit.  God is raising up many prophetic voices in the earth today.  The gifts of prophecy are basically of two types.  One is the “simple gift of prophecy” which every believer can express under the function or direction of the Holy Spirit after they have been filled with God the Holy Spirit.  The other is the “office gift” of the Spirit which is given to a prophet or prophetess who is called to be the “five-fold” ministry office as outlined in I Corinthians 12:28 which says “And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.”

Ephesians 4:11-12: “And He gave some apostles; and some prophets; and some, evangelists; and some pastors and teachers for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.”  The basic difference between these two types, is that the simple gift of prophecy is given to all spirit filled believers as spoken of in I Corinthians 14:31, “For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.”   It is for the purpose of edification, exhortation, and comfort as spoken of in I Corinthians 14:3, “But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.” The “office gift” of a prophet or prophetess is given to speak to the body of Christ at large.  The ministers who are called to the office of a prophet or prophetess will deliver messages which include edification, exhortation and comfort, but their messages can also be directive in nature and futuristic in content as well (Ephesians 4:11-15).  Presently God is leading His people with prophetic preaching and teaching.  A prophetic movement is taking place in the world."

Some Christian told Pastor Ng that she is more like the Prophet Jeremiah and Prophetess Debra in the Bible (read the book of Jeremiah and Judge 4:4).   In fact, Pastor Ng knew that she has this office gift of prophecy a few years ago when she started correcting a few churches and prophesying over them by writing letters and e-mails and by sharing.  This calling is quite challenging to Pastor Ng and is difficult for her in time for it involves conviction and confrontation. As you understand, not many people like to receive correction and warning although those messages are a real blessing to them (so, Pastor Ng needs your prayers!).  Throughout the years, Pastor Ng learned that the prophecies occasionally didn't come to pass due to the people who received the prophecies willfully ignoring the instructions of God or not taking them seriously and adhering to it completely (partially obeying) or being rebelled.  On the other hand, when the recipients of the prophecy decide to obey God, God sometimes holds back His judgment and His original words (2 King 20:1-6, Jonah 3:9,10) .  God gives freewill to all of us to take the prophecy or not.  Therefore, taking the prophecies and His Word seriously is going to bless you today and forever (eternally).  The Bible in I Thessalonians 5: 20, 21 warn us "Do not treat prophecies with contempt…test everything."
